Barbie Koncher was presented with gifts and proclamations yesterday at the Art, Wine & Jazz Festival as the Brentwood Art Society's Artist of the Year . . . this one from State Assemblyman Jim Frazier. Well deserved, Barbie! (photo and words from Betty Partridge Gaughan)
Barbie Koncher, an area resident since 1992, was recently named Artist of the Year by the Brentwood Art Society.
Koncher has been making jewelry for more than 30 years, working in a number of various mediums.
“I was absolutely shocked when I found out I was being named for this honor,” said Koncher. “I just love the creative process, whether I’m fusing glass or doing bronze work. I also love the work I have done with the Brentwood Arts Commission and the Brentwood Art, Wine and Jazz Festival; I’ve always been a big promoter of the arts and art scholarships for students.”
The Brentwood Artist of the Year award, which was founded in 2008 to recognize the contributions of a local artists and arts supporters, is the most recent recognition of Koncher’s talent and dedication to the local arts community. The award will be formally presented during the Brentwood Art, Wine and Jazz Festival in August.
Select pieces of Koncher’s works will soon be available for purchase at the Delta Gallery.
