AGD Coordinates Banner Up!
Welcome to the first annual Banner Up! event. This is a community program sponsored by the City of Brentwood, Economic Development Division, City of Brentwood Arts Commission and coordinated through Art Guild of the Delta.
A Call for Artist went out in April and resulted in 68 originally designed and painted banners being hung in downtown Brentwood for the summer. They are featured on the light poles along blocks of Chestnut Street, First Street, Oak Street, Second Street and beautiful City Park.
The banners will fly thru Labor Day and be enjoyed during the Farmer’s Market season, Starry Night Concert series, Harvest Time Festival, and Art, Wine and Jazz Festival. The grand finale will feature a Gala Reception and Auction on September 29th. This free event will be held from 6 to 9 pm at Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak Street, Brentwood. The artists will receive 50% of the selling price and the remaining funds will be donated to The Brentwood Library Foundation to be used for public artwork being planned for the new Brentwood Library.

Barbie Koncher was presented with gifts and proclamations yesterday at the Art, Wine & Jazz Festival as the Brentwood Art Society's Artist of the Year . . . this one from State Assemblyman Jim Frazier. Well deserved, Barbie! (photo and words from Betty Partridge Gaughan)
Barbie Koncher, an area resident since 1992, was recently named Artist of the Year by the Brentwood Art Society.
Koncher has been making jewelry for more than 30 years, working in a number of various mediums.
“I was absolutely shocked when I found out I was being named for this honor,” said Koncher. “I just love the creative process, whether I’m fusing glass or doing bronze work. I also love the work I have done with the Brentwood Arts Commission and the Brentwood Art, Wine and Jazz Festival; I’ve always been a big promoter of the arts and art scholarships for students.”
The Brentwood Artist of the Year award, which was founded in 2008 to recognize the contributions of a local artists and arts supporters, is the most recent recognition of Koncher’s talent and dedication to the local arts community. The award will be formally presented during the Brentwood Art, Wine and Jazz Festival in August.
